Portrait of "TJ"

The photo
at left was taken of TJ as he skipped stones across a creek. When his name
was called and he looked up, I pressed the shutter on the camera. It was a
great moment that had terrific potential as a painted portrait.
The
finished portrait, above(right), was painted in a very free-form - almost
impressionistic - manner. That seemed to fit the mood the best. While this
could just as easily have painted in a vertical format, like the photograph,
I decided to paint it as a close-up in order to get as much of his face on
canvas as possible. You can see that painting him with more vivid colors
really brought the painting to life.
